The upper Control arms start to loosen when my car hit 120k+, they make clunking noise when you back up while turning, and my car feels loose when you go over bumps. It took me 5 hours because I didn\u2019t know what to do first. In this write up, I recommend some steps that may save time and work.<br \/>\nTools needed are 16mm, 18mm wrenches and 13mm sockets, pry bar, circlip removal tool.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/upperca.jpg\" alt=\"Tools and parts\" width=\"502\" height=\"377\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Due to front upper control arm\u2019s circlip on the bolt, we need to remove the shock housing and to remove the shock plate, we need to remove the shock assembly also, there\u2019s no short cut.<br \/>\nRemove the splinter bolt and punch the bolt through to remove the front upper CA.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/uppercabolt.jpg\" alt=\"Upper bolts\" width=\"492\" height=\"373\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/uppercafront.jpg\" alt=\"Upper CA front\" width=\"493\" height=\"370\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Remove the shock fork bolt and slide it out to the side for assembly removal. Jack the car up on the other side to release the tension on stabilizer, make it easier to move the fork out.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/shockfork.jpg\" alt=\"Shock Fork\" width=\"452\" height=\"335\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/shockhousing.jpg\" alt=\"Shock Housing\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There are 2 13mm nuts holding the shock assembly, make sure use long nose pliers to remove the nuts before the shock housing is removed. You may lose these nuts if you forget<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/shockout.jpg\" alt=\"Shock out\" width=\"503\" height=\"377\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Now remove the rear upper control arm when the shock is out. Next is to remove the shock housing, 4 18mm nuts on the top.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/shockhousing1.jpg\" alt=\"Shock housing\" width=\"509\" height=\"335\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/shockhousingtop.jpg\" alt=\"shock housing top\" width=\"522\" height=\"391\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/shockhousingout.jpg\" alt=\"shock housing out\" width=\"549\" height=\"378\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><br \/>\nThe circlip causes all the shock assembly removal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/circlip.jpg\" alt=\"Circlip\" width=\"550\" height=\"406\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><br \/>\nRemove the Circlip and take out the old front upper CA.<br \/>\nReplace with a new one and put the circlip back on.<br \/>\nPut the housing back in its place and install 4 18mm nuts.<br \/>\nInstall the rear upper CA, inside bolt first then the splinter side.<br \/>\nJack the car up at the lower CA to simulate the original position as if the car is on the ground and tighten the inside bolt and nut tightly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/uppercarearin.jpg\" alt=\"Upper CA rear In\" width=\"550\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/jack.jpg\" alt=\"Jack\" width=\"550\" height=\"393\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><br \/>\nInstall the shock assembly, if you\u2019re doing it by yourself, jack the shock up so you can install the tricky 2- 13mm nuts on the top. I tape the nut with electrical tape and push it in the socket tightly so they don\u2019t fall down the holes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/shockforkinstall.jpg\" alt=\"Shock Fork installed\" width=\"550\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/shockhousingnut.jpg\" alt=\"Shock nut\" width=\"550\" height=\"411\" \/>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">After the shock assembly is secured in place, try to place the fork over the straight control arm before the front upper CA is installed because you have more room to manipulate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/shockforkalign.jpg\" alt=\"Align fork\" width=\"550\" height=\"415\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Loosen the inner straight arm bolt if necessary to get the fork in.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/straightarmloose.jpg\" alt=\"Straight arm loosen\" width=\"550\" height=\"412\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><br \/>\nIf you installed the front upper CA first, you have to remove the straight arm and the stabilizer\u2019s connector and it is a pain like I did to get the fork back in.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/uppercafrontin.jpg\" alt=\"Upper CA Front In\" width=\"550\" height=\"409\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/uppercafinish.jpg\" alt=\"Upper CA Finished\" width=\"499\" height=\"343\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/upperca\/uppercaold.jpg\" alt=\"Upper CA Old\" width=\"452\" height=\"337\" \/><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Finally everything is in. You should notice how the shock assembly is installed originally, because it can be installed 180 degree different like mine did. I don\u2019t know if it makes much different, but I don\u2019t feel it while driving. Make sure all bolts &amp; nuts have lock tight.
