The other day, I had to use it for some tutorials with Windows and it updated itself then hung the computer. Turned off the power and the HP blue screen came up with the message &#8220;Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We&#8217;re just collecting some error info, and then we&#8217;ll restart for you. MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION&#8221; and it sit there forever, I had to turn off again with power button.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Turned on the power the second time, it tried to automatically fix the problem then failed, went into debugging options, I tried everyone of the advance options, but none of them work: startup repair, recover, reset.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"preview\" href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_63.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[bcd]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5910\" src=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_63-200x112.jpg\" alt=\"Windows 10 MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION Boot Error\" width=\"200\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a class=\"preview\" href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_advance_options.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[bcd]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5909\" src=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_advance_options-200x112.jpg\" alt=\"Windows 10 debug Advanced Options\" width=\"200\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"preview\" href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_77.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[bcd]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5918\" src=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_77-200x112.jpg\" alt=\"z_hp_w10_77\" width=\"200\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a class=\"preview\" href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_82.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[bcd]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5919\" src=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_82-200x112.jpg\" alt=\"HP Windows 10 Recovery Failed\" width=\"200\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>After a few times, it didn&#8217;t go into the repair mode any more, I had to use the Windows USB boot disk to access the advanced options repair. This time, I used Command Prompt and run chkdsk c: \/F . It scanned and fixed and deleted files then rebooted. Now the blue screen came up with NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM Error. Ran chkdsk c:\/r \/x again, it rebooted and now the new blue screen \\EFI\\Microsoft\\Boot\\BCD. So now I have to fix the boot BCD file.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"preview\" href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_69.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[bcd]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5911\" src=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_69-200x112.jpg\" alt=\"chkdsk c: \/F\" width=\"200\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a class=\"preview\" href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_boot_bcd.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[bcd]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5925\" src=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_boot_bcd-200x112.jpg\" alt=\"\\EFI\\Microsoft\\Boot\\BCD failed to boot\" width=\"200\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>To fix the boot EFI\\Microsoft\\Boot\\BCD, I need to go to Command Prompt again using <a href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/how-to-create-windows-8-1-usb-installer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Windows 8 or 10 USB or ISO disk<\/a>\u00a0to access the Advance options repair menu. I need to access diskpart -&gt; list vol to find out where the EFI folder is.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>I have 2 hard drives: 1 SSD and 1 1TB, I had 2 EFI folders. If you only have 1 EFI folder, you can just use the commands:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"preview\" title=\"Fix \\EFI\\Microsofl\\Boot\\BCD\" href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_86.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[bcd]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5921\" src=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_86-200x112.jpg\" alt=\"Fix \\EFI\\Microsofl\\Boot\\BCD\" width=\"200\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a class=\"preview\" title=\"Fix \\EFI\\Microsofl\\Boot\\BCD\" href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_88.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[bcd]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5922\" src=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_88-200x112.jpg\" alt=\"Fix \\EFI\\Microsofl\\Boot\\BCD\" width=\"200\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><code><em>bootrec \/fixboot<br \/>\nbootrec \/scanos<br \/>\nbootrec \/rebuildbcd<br \/>\nYes<\/em><\/code><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Because I have 2 EFI folders, I need to select the correct EFI folder to install the BCD.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"preview\" title=\"fix \\EFI\\Microsoft\\Boot\\BCD with 2 EFI folders\" href=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_89.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[bcd]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5923\" src=\"\/\/www.dognmonkey.com\/techs\/wp-content\/uploads\/z_hp_w10_89-200x112.jpg\" alt=\"z_hp_w10_89\" width=\"200\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><code><em>diskpart<br \/>\nlist vol<br \/>\nselect vol 5<br \/>\nassign letter=b:<br \/>\nexit<br \/>\nbootrec \/fixboot<br \/>\nbcdboot c:\\windows \/s b: \/f ALL<\/em><\/code><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>After this the EFI sector is fixed and it boots again to Windows 10.
