I’ve been driving electric cars since 2015. I’ve never bought an expensive electric car; I don’t need to drive long distances or across states, just within the city. I bought a Mercedes Benz B250e electric car for my mother-in-law to drive the kids to school, to the market, to church, etc. I bought it 8 years ago, and back then it only had a range of 80 miles on a full charge, but it was enough for a lot of driving. Now, in August 2026, it can still get 80-96 miles on a full charge.
The mileage on this car is very accurate; even at 70 mph with the air conditioning on, it doesn’t decrease. The battery life on this Mercedes doesn’t degrade over time because the manufacturer only allows a maximum charge of 80%, which can’t be changed. This car has an extended range option, meaning if you need to go further, you can press a button to charge to 90%, giving you over 100 miles, but I never use it because I don’t need it.
The car is fully equipped with amenities: air conditioning, memory seats, TPMS, navigation. I’ve added Apple CarPlay and front and rear dashcams for safety.
In 8 years, it’s never broken down, never been to a dealership, just plugged it in and charged it every time I drove home. No need for oil changes or flimsy smog checks like with gasoline cars. The brakes are still in good condition, only the tires need replacing, which I’ve only replaced once between 18,000 and 48,000 miles.
I heard the engine is made by Tesla, so it’s very durable and fast; once you switch to racing mode, the car accelerates very quickly.
In my opinion, every household should have an electric car. My family has two; we don’t need them for long distances, just for good performance, affordability, and durability, especially Mercedes-Benz.
